The Mid-Continent trading and storage hub at Cushing, OK is the nation’s largest commercial crude tank farm – with an estimated 73 MMBbl of working storage capacity according to the Energy Information Administration (EIA). The EIA reported that the combined crude oil inventories at Cushing, Oklahoma, and the US Gulf Coast hit a record high of 309.4 MMbbls for the week ending November 27, 2015. Storage at these sites is at 70% of combined storage capacity, which is lower than the record of 72% set in April 2015. The Cushing tank farm currently holds 16% of all US crude oil inventories (about 67 million barrels), and has a total working capacity of 77 million barrels. Although that may not sound like a lot, it's almost as big as Canada's entire crude storage capacity. The planned storage facility "will be a major interconnect and segregation point for crude oil transported through the Cushing complex," he said.
